One month for McGinty
Manchester United defender Sean McGinty has joined the Cumbrians on a one-month loan deal this afternoon.
McGinty, 19, is eligible to play, if selected, in tonight’s League One fixture at Deepdale.
The tall centre half spent his formative years with Charlton before making the switch to Old Trafford in 2009.
He earned a place in Warren Joyce’s reserve side in 2011 and has enjoyed loan spells with Morecambe and Oxford United. He has represented the republic of Ireland at U17 and U19 level.
Manager Greg Abbott said: “Manchester United know all about us and they know we look after their players when they come up here.
“I've been able to have Sean watched and he has a great physical presence with his size and with the way he plays the game. He is very highly thought of down there and hopefully he will join us and fit into the squad at a time when we have picked up a few injuries.
“He’s at one of the best clubs in the country and this is a chance for him to come here and work in and around our first team squad. It’s a good opportunity for him to show us what he can do.”
McGinty will take squad number 23 at Brunton Park. He has been given permission to feature in the FA Cup fixture against Bournemouth at the beginning of December. Loan expiry date is midnight on Tuesday 4 December.
