Greg Abbott on the FA Cup game
Manager Greg Abbott spoke to us on Friday afternoon ahead of the visit of Bournemouth.
He said: “It’s been a good week for us.
“Winning the game last weekend was good for us and that has given us a good spirit around the camp.
“We had a very good bounce game against Barnsley on Wednesday and that got us some some very valuable pitch time for lads who needed it.
“We’ve trained really well this week and all the players want now is to keep winning games. We go into tomorrow off the back of a good result and we want to build on that by getting another one.
“Bournemouth are on a really good run and they’ll be a tough test for us. They are the Manchester United of our division at the moment and they have spent their money wisely.
“If we perform the way we did against Doncaster and Yeovil then we’ll be fine. We got beat in one of those games but the effort and determination was there. We know if we take the game to them that we’ll cause them problems.
“Hopefully you’ll see a completely different type of performance to the one we put on last time they were here. We gifted them their goals far too easily and we weren’t happy about that. If they get something out of the game this time then we want it to be because they have had to work exceptionally hard.
“Everyone wants to get to the third round because of what it can mean. I want our players to put that out of their mind because the focus has to be on doing the job properly on Saturday. We can think about everything else if we go through from there.
“Valentin Gjokaj is available if we need him so that’s good news. He played well beside Sean McGinty at Barnsley and that was important for both of them. Sean is due to leave us on Tuesday but we’re talking to Manchester United to see if we can keep him. He’s improving all the time so hopefully that’s something we’ll be able to sort out.”
