CATHEDRAL: Blues support appeal

Blues support Cathedral Fratry Appeal

Carlisle United Football Club and Carlisle Cathedral are teaming up later this month as the Blues show their support for the Fratry Project Appeal – the plan to bring untold stories to life at the Cathedral.

The Cumbrians will be making a £1,000 donation to the Fratry Appeal as the mobile Blues Store takes a place adjacent to the Lodge at the entrance to the Cathedral grounds throughout the late-night festive shopping period.

The Blues will mark the cheque donation and the opening of the mobile Blues Store at 5pm on Thursday 22 November when Adam Collin, Brad Potts and Josh Todd will be at the Cathedral to show their support for the project.

Managing director John Nixon said: “We are pleased to have found a way to support this appeal and I am currently writing to local businesses to seek their support. Hopefully we can help to raise awareness and ultimately some vital funds for what is a fantastic project.”

The Dean of Carlisle, The Very Reverend Mark Boyling, said: “The Fratry Project will create a world-class asset at the heart of the city and will bring its heritage to life. But we need people’s help if we are to reach our fundraising target. Thank you, Carlisle United, for your support.”

Mobile Blues Store opening times:

Thursday 22 November: 5pm to 8.30pm

Friday 23 November: 9.30am to 5pm

Saturday 24 November: 9.30am to 5pm

... and every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 22 December 2012.

More about the Fratry Project

Carlisle Cathedral has some great stories to tell and this bold and innovative project with the Fratry building at the heart of the Cathedral precinct will become the hub for this new work.

The Undercroft of the Fratry now houses the popular Prior’s Kitchen restaurant but access to this wonderful building has always been hard for anyone who finds stairs difficult.

The project will provide the following:

+ The easy access the building requires
+ The main floor will be equipped for learning activity
+ A new Cloister Room
+ More accessible toilet facilities
+ More space in the Undercroft for catering

The Fratry Appeal aims to raise £1,000,000 to supplement the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund of £910,000 needed to complete the project.

The Cathedral Chapter and Friends of Carlisle Cathedral have already promised major support totalling £400,000 – but YOUR help is needed to raise the remaining £600,000.
