Pre-match with the gaffer
United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us ahead of the visit of Sheffield United at the weekend.
He said: “This weekend is about our team and how we are going to perform.
“We know that we need to improve on our home form and this is an ideal chance for us to start that.
“Sheffield United are a really good club and a very decent side but the emphasis has to be on our team and on what we can do.
“We’ve put the challenge down to the lads to build on the win we had at Yeovil. We want a result here so that we can start to buy the belief back with our fans. We’re determined that we’ll go out there and try to cause as many problems as possible.
“It’s one where we have to roll our sleeves up. It won’t be easy but on our day we can play some very good football. Our performances haven’t been as good as they can be for a while and we know that. We’re now starting to get players back and there’s a good feeling in the group. We need to use that and make sure we are positive in everything we do.
“We have prepared as well as we can and there’s a real belief in what we are trying to do. We need every bit of support we can get and I have to say that the support at home has been out of this world. The fans have stuck with us and we really need to repay that.
“We think we’ve got a strong team out tomorrow even though we’ll have four senior players who are definitely ruled out. James Berrett, Frank Simek, Peter Murphy and Lee Miller are definitely missing but we think we have a group to cope with that.
“Sheffield United can be physical when they need to be so we’ll have to dig in and defend as a team. They can also play football, but so can we, so we’ve nothing to be frightened of.
“We just need to get out there and give a performance which reminds everyone that we are a good side, and then we can start to push on again.”
