Lee Miller on the Bury game
Striker Lee Miller doubled his tally for the season with just two minutes on the clock on Saturday, and we spoke to him about his penalty spot heroics shortly after the final whistle had blown.
“It’s brilliant to get a penalty that early in the game,” he said. “I’ll step up whenever they are, but that’s a good chance to settle everyone into it. Brad Potts did really well for us and it was just a case of slotting it away.
“I don’t have any set way of taking a penalty. It all comes down to how I feel at the time. I’m confident anyway in front of goal so I always back myself to score.”
On the game itself, he said: “We dominated the first half and created some good chances, and it really helped with us getting the early goals. That put us on the front foot and it was one where we know we should have scored a few more.
“All fairness to them because they came out and dominated the second half. We coped with it, we defended with our lives and we got the result we wanted. It was an ugly win but it’s one we’ll take.
“The only down side is that we didn’t quite kill them off. That allowed them to throw everyone at us and I thought Mark Gillespie was different class.”
“I think we’ve sorted ourselves out defensively,” he told us. “The boys have played tremendously well and there’s a real determination to protect what we have.
“On a personal level I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I’m completely knackered, there’s no two ways about that, but it’s all about getting game time. I’ve played three now and scoring the two goals has been fantastic for me from a confidence point of view. I’m just glad to be back and playing games to be honest.”
“There’s been a real determination to turn the corner and I think we’re going from strength-to-strength at the moment,” he added. “A lot of teams have come to Brunton Park and won by playing ugly. We’re doing exactly the same now. We know we can play football as well but the important thing for us is results.
“The character in the dressing room is tremendous. There is a really positive feeling around the place and we want to push on again now. Crewe is a difficult place to go but we’re building up a bit of momentum and hopefully we’ll carry that on with another win on Tuesday.”
