WE LET OURSELVES DOWN

Captain on the Tranmere game

United captain Paul Thirlwell gave us his assessment of a very disappointing performance on Tuesday night.

He said: "The goals they got [Andy Robinson hat-trick] were good but we've done ourselves really.

"We didn't get going at all and that was very disappointing. It's the worst we've played in a long while and we can't get away from that.

"If you add the fact we gave silly free kicks away and things like that then you get what was a very poor performance.

"We huffed and puffed in the second half but in the end we were lucky we only conceded the three. However, if we'd scored when it was at 2-0 it would have changed things a bit but, as it was, it didn't go for us and we didn't really deserve anything from the game.

"I think it's more disappointing because we've been playing really well and there's been plenty of confidence around the place. We came into this one really looking forward to it and we've let ourselves down.

"Thankfully we've got a game on Saturday where we can put this right. Over recent years we've reacted well to things like this and we're going to have to make sure we do that again."
