Dave Symington on getting on the score sheet
Wide-man Dave Symington came off the bench to have a massive impact on Tuesday night when he capped off a fine individual performance with his first ever senior goal – which just happened to be the match winner.
We spoke to him about the experience just after full time.
He said: “I’m just over the moon to be honest. I was determined not to miss it because I’d scuffed one just like it a couple of weeks ago.
“I had it in my mind that I wasn’t going to let that happen again, so I picked my spot and it went in.
“When I was coming off the bench the gaffer whispered at me to get on there and do what I can do. You do get a feeling that things are going well when you’re on the pitch and it was one of those nights when it all went for me.
“What I want now is a bit of consistency so that I’m doing it all the time.
“Coming off the pitch when you’ve beaten a team like Ipswich is unbelievable. I just couldn’t stop smiling. Hopefully there’ll be more of it but it’s up to me to keep working hard to make sure that happens.
“I don’t really get nervous any more either. I used to be the most nervous person in the world but I’m working with the senior players every day now and they make you feel part of it. I just want to keep showing people what I can do.”
